Urban Aqualoop

The Urban Aqualoop is public space created from infrastructure and natural cycles, using the aquaponic cycle as an organizing strategy to create areas for lounging, eating and playing within a working fish farm. Aquaponics is a sustainable farming system where fish, plants and water are combined in a continuous loop of cleaning, growing and eating. Urban Aqualoop lets these systemic flows generate architecture, making the “loop” visible and comprehensible. Observing the fish and plants, visitors also become participants in a larger series of interrelated cycles – systems of cooking and eating, lounging and massaging, playing and learning.
