Fifth Avenue Apartment

A four-bedroom apartment for a contemporary art and furniture collector uses unique pieces of furniture as starting points for each room’s singular identity. Working quickly with a tight budget – and in a rented apartment, where everything had to remain “removable” – WORKac’s design makes the most of saturated colors and unexpected juxtapositions.

The public areas of the apartment are defined by vinyl floor covering in three bold colors. Circles of white vinyl, as if spotlights for the furniture, create distinct areas around key pieces. The desaturated entranceway, with a WORKac-designed wallpaper that echoes the circles of the floor, contrasts with the bright, monochrome bedrooms, where walls, ceiling, and custom-dyed carpet all share the same tone. Artist Elodie Blanchard designed custom curtains for the windows and closet doorways, creating different motifs to match each room’s color.
