Pingshan Masterplan

In Pingshan, one of the most important industrial sub-centers of Shenzen’s booming metropolis, a new kind of highly localized infrastructure will integrate urban and ecological systems while creating new types of public spaces and collective experiences.
A minor grid of pedestrian-friendly streets is punctuated by a major grid of eight boulevards, each with a unique identity, and each tied to a particular eco-infrastructural function – from wastewater management to urban agriculture to solar power generation. These boulevards lend distinct character to eight mixed-use neighborhoods featuring a diversity of block types and densities.
A green belt delineates the area served by this new infrastructure and becomes a campus-like setting for recreational facilities and institutional buildings. Connected to the larger city by train and subway and serviced by a new electric tram, the district is designed to be essentially car-free.
