A New York video editing studio responds to the contrasting environmental requirements of the video editing process. The bright, open industrial loft was less than ideal for video editors, who prefer darkened rooms with good acoustics – but it made a welcoming environment for producers, who often spend days on end hanging around the studio, occasionally previewing clips.

WORKac’s design inserts a single architectural “object” into the center of the space to enclose four differently sized editing suites, arrayed around a server hub. Its articulated shape carves out discrete private lounges for producers along the sun-drenched exterior. Finishes and furniture heighten the contrast of inside and outside. A resin floor dramatically reflects the bright orange object. Inside, pop-art-inspired carpets and matching couches create different colored identities for each editing suite.
