A second project for Creative Time’s Times Square installation, the Media Outpost is a more militant anti-Times Square, housing a collection of alternative zines by artist collaborative K48 as a statement against Times Square’s corporate media moguls.

The solar-powered Outpost is a tower-shaped “fort” of sustainable materials, a play both on the modernist “tower in the park” and on Midtown’s underused public plazas. The tower is built from two walls of structural hay, with another wall of moss and grass and a lightwall of recycled plastic. The “plaza” is an existing planter revamped to accommodate a summer growth of vegetables.
