Information Hub

An installation for the public arts group Creative Time, the Information Hub is an anti-Times Square, sitting in the midst of Times Square’s frenzy. The 18-by-27-foot coated polystyrene box floats three feet above the ground, raised on car jacks. Without leaving the ground of Times Square, visitors’ heads enter an entirely different place.

Curving walls create an oasis of calm where people can reorient themselves and gain the critical distance necessary to approach the artwork on display. Times Square’s dominant, loud, and synthetic exterior gives way to a passive, organic, and silent interior: a cultural grotto in the commercial center of New York.
