Wooster Street Loft
A full-floor penthouse apartment in SoHo, Wooster Street Loft is designed as a sequence of monolithic objects, defining the continuous, open spaces between the front living room and the back bedrooms.
The elevator, stairs, and bathrooms are enclosed by a massive bronze-coated wall, which also contains the kitchen cabinetry. A black granite kitchen island with a nine-foot cantilever creates an impossibly long dining table. Contrasting with the island’s heaviness, an extremely light steel stair ascends to the roof deck. Behind, separating the media zone from the bedroom, a plywood box clad in acoustic panels doubles as closet and bookshelf.
Across the entire length of the apartment, the ceiling slopes down toward the center, where it is punctured by a skylight. The new private roof deck is made of teak with a green roof “garden” and an outdoor shower.
